Some favorite smoothie combos

Do you like smoothies? I’ve loved them for a long time, and go through phases where I enjoy drinking them most days—and I also at times get sick of them and go awhile without them.

Because I know that people will ask, I use a Blendtec blender. I totally think you can get away with something cheaper, but I’ve loved having it and really appreciated their warranties. My previous blender worked great! Until it broke a month or so after the one year warranty. Other blenders I’ve liked are the Nutribullet brand, Ninja brand, and Vitamix. I wanted a Blendtec for almost a decade though after I worked in a smoothie shop for a while and that’s what we used.

I’m going to just offer some ingredient combos; feel free to get creative. These are two of my recent favorites. Everyone likes their smoothies different consistencies, sweetness, etc. My go to ratios are usually around these amounts:

liquid: 6-10 oz
fruit: 1/3-2/3 cup + veggies: to taste
fat (like nut butter, nuts, coconut, etc): 1 Tablespoon
ice: 5-8 cubes (you can skip it but I like the consistency and the potency of flavor better with a little ice)
add ins: 1-3 tablespoons
protein powder: 1/2-1 scoop (I always use protein powder personally, but I often add other protein sources as add ins)

Sweet Banana Shake
dates
bananas
nut butter (I usually use peanut or almond, or a few cashews)
milk, yogurt, or a combo of the two (I also like to use brewed cacao like CrioBru here)
ice
chocolate or vanilla protein powder
cinnamon, nutmeg, or cocoa powder or a combination

Green Refresh
banana
mango, orange, pineapple, or combination
coconut milk or another milk or yogurt
ginger (I like fresh but you can use powder) or/and lemon, lime, or orange juice
nuts or coconut (optional, the texture is more grainy with these)
spinach or kale
ice
vanilla protein powder

These are two I’ve had on repeat over the past few months. Enjoy!

Smoothies are a great option for a quick or portable breakfast, and if tolerated well can be great for pregnant or postpartum moms since they can be consumed with one hand and can contain lots of nutrients!
